The beginning of movement: A profile " To Defeat Disability" |
Under the auspices of Rotary Delhi Central Charitable Trust sponsored by Rotary Club of Delhi Central, Mr. H.L. Kapur, the then Hon'ble Lt. Governor Delhi, Inaugurated the Workshop in 1988 for manufacturing artificial limbs and providing them free to the disabled. Inspired by the Rotary's objective of community service and motto Service Above Self, a humble beginning of the canard was made in the primary School building at Chitragupta Road, New Delhi.

Workshop in LNJP Hospital Post Polio Aids & Artificial Limbs |
From the primary school building , the workshop was shifted to Dharamshala complex in LNJP Hospital during 1991 where the Kendra worked in close association with the Orthopedics Department of LNJP hospital. In the comparatively larger space, activities of the Kendra were enlarged to include providing post and walking aids such as orthopedic shoes, calipers, wheelchairs and tricycles.
Till March 2018, almost 48825 handicapped persons have been rehabilitated, both physically as well as economically deserving cases. While providing the limbs aids and appliances totally free of cost, the underlying objective has been to prepare the viklangs to live a life of dignity and honour.

Quest for Expansion in Creation of Larger Workshop |
While the workshop in LNJP Hospital continued to cater to the needs of the viklangs, the quest for owning a larger space for providing multifaceted treatment continued. The need to provide multi-dimensional services under one roof was considered imperative where not only the tailor-made artificial limbs, aids and appliances for post - polio patients were provided and also physio and occupational therapies could be provided including well-equipped workshop for vocational training.
The need for larger space for Rotary viklang Kendra was satisfied by purchasing of plot measuring 406 Sq. Mts. at 42-X Karkardooma Institutional Area in East Delhi.
